This group of men are operating a steam-powered threshing machine on the Hungerford Township farm of Felix and Marie Latendre.
Crews like this were made up of labourers from different farms, and they would travel from farm to farm with their machine during the harvest season. If they had to stay overnight, the host farm would provide them with a hot meal.
Marie Latendre was famous for her home-cooked food and freshly baked pies, but on other farms the fare might be less appetizing.
